What Optimist Clubs Do

Optimist Clubs are dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids" and do their part through community service programs. Since each Club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their area in any way they see fit. Optimist Clubs see a need in their community and react to it.

Optimists conduct 65,000 community service projects each year, spending $78 million in their communities. Annually, six million kids are positively affected by Optimist programs.

About Us

The Rocky Mount Evening Optimist Club has proudly served the youth of Rocky Mount, Nash and Edgecombe Counties since 1957. The Club is affiliated with Optimist International.

The Club supports youth sports like baseball, softball, football, and golf. We provide scholarships for kids with our annual Essay Contest and Oratorical Contest and others. Childhood Cancer is a major focus of Optimist International. The Club's award winning "Optimistic Learner" program works to encourage fifth graders to be their best. We also donate to youth-related causes and assist other non-profit organizations with their youth projects.

We fund our youth projects through local fund raisers. The Club has sold thousands of Christmas trees to the families of the Rocky Mount area for more than fifty years. We operate a food concession stand at the Rocky Mount Fair. We annually host a Superball Golf Tournament. A popular addition to our fund raisers is the sale of Brunswick Stew under the direction of Club Stew Meister Henry Edmondson. Help us help the kids by supporting our projects.

A special thanks goes out to our many Rocky Mount, Nash and Edgecombe area citizens who have so kindly supported us through the years and have helped to make us Rocky Mount's premier civic club.
